Materiel & Financial Accounting Basic Practitioner Workshop 
Course Code MFA-B
Description: This one day workshop builds on the knowledge introduced in Materiel & Financial Accounting On-line Training (MFAOLT). Completion of this training is mandatory for all Band D & E Supply Chain Management staff and will be required to attain or retain both the Inventory Management Licence and similarly the Inventory Management Certificate of Competence. Band C grade and above may also attend this workshop so that they are fully aware of the requirements placed upon their staff, but should attend Materiel & Financial Accounting Advanced Practitioner (MFA-A) workshop to meet mandatory requirements.
Aim: To ensure that all Supply Chain Managers achieve the appropriate level of functional competence required for Materiel Accounting of the Defence Inventory by Supply Chain Management practitioners. Completion of this training is mandatory for all Supply Chain Management staff at Band D & E and will be required to attain or retain both the Inventory Management Licence and similarly the Inventory Management Certificate of Competence.
Duration: 1 day non-residential.
Pre-Requisites: Materiel & Financial Accounting On-Line Training (MFAOLT), including successful completion of the post test.
Designed For: Mandatory for all Band D & E grades within a Supply Chain Management function. Band C grade and above should attend Materiel & Financial Accounting Advanced Practitioner course, but may also attend this workshop so that they are fully aware of the requirements placed upon their staff.

Finance Staff are required to undertake internal inventory accounting/systems training plus some elements (still to be agreed) of the MFA training to ensure coherence and shared understanding.

Objectives: By the end of the course students will be able to:
• Recall the key issues behind the current MOD Materiel and Financial Accounting (MFA) training requirement and their understanding of the MOD’s MFA improvement plan;
• Demonstrate how they can access and participate in the MFA improvement plan from the workplace;
• Recall and demonstrate their understanding of the definitions of Materiel Accounting (MA) and Financial Accounting for the Inventory (FAI), the differences in scope between MA and FAI and the dependencies between the two activities;
• Identify the key stakeholders, their roles and responsibilities;
• Demonstrate the benefits of applying MA policy, process and procedures (the 3 Ps), in an accurate and timely manner;
• Demonstrate the benefits of applying the new MA Performance (Compliance and Assurance) procedures;
• Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the range of JSC Log IS used in the E2E SC, including the requirements for reconciliation;
• Recall the key knowledge requirements in the FAI section and demonstrate how their application will improve FAI, Inventory Planning and related business and financial management processes.
