Defence Acquisition Management MSc/PgDip/PgCert

Description: The course assesses the practical application of the theories, concepts and analytical techniques to the modern, multi-national defence acquisition and logistics management environment. It aims to improve individual and organisational effectiveness through advanced knowledge of key issues that enable enhanced decision making within the challenging and changing defence acquisition environment.

A key feature of the course is the eligibility for the relevant qualification of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and the Chartered Institute of Logistics (CILT); as an optional element, students can sit the Association of Project Management examinations and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

General Acquisition/Supply Network Management variants

Aim: Takes you on to career development in the Equipment Capability area, the Defence Equipment and Support organisation (or other relevant areas such as Defence Estates), defence manufacturers, commercial organisations, government departments etc. It also provides a relevant lead-in towards PhD studies focused upon acquisition, such as through life capability management, procurement and logistics themes.
Duration: MSc Full-time: One year.
MSc Executive: Two years and eight months (twelve, single-week residential schools) plus an eight month thesis (studied at a distance)
Pre-Requisites: 1st or 2nd class honours degree in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent. Alternatively, a lesser qualification together with appropriate work experience may be acceptable. Exceptionally, candidates without formal qualifications may be considered if sufficiently experienced and subject to satisfactory performance on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). Students whose native language is not English must attain a minimum IELTS score of 7
Designed For: Suitable for all those within the acquisition community it provides in-depth knowledge of the theories, concepts and analytical techniques relevant to capability, procurement, contracting, logistics, supply chain management and equipment support.
Objectives: You will be taught by faculty from Cranfield Defence and Security at the Defence Academy – College of Management and Technology, many of them world leaders in their field, who understand the challenges of translating the theory into practice. Visiting lecturers include experts from industry, commerce, research establishments and Government departments, particularly MOD. Assessment A mixture of examinations, assignments, case study analyses and individual reports.
