Acquisition - Advanced Introduction
Course Code AIA
Description: The AIA is designed to prepare military and civilian personnel for senior acquisition posts, as a section head within an IPT or as a desk officer in the Equipment Capability area for example.
Aim: To develop a more critical approach to acquisition and an understanding of wider strategic issues. The course is formally assessed and successful completion provides credits towards the Defence Acquisition Management MSc (DAM MSc), which can subsequently be undertaken at the Defence College of Management and Training (DCMT) (subject to academic approval by Cranfield University). Students are encouraged to sit the Association for Project Management Professionalism (APMP) examination.
Duration: A 4 week residential modular course run in January and September.
Pre-Requisites: N/A
Designed For: 1*/SCS level and C1/B1/OF 4s who are about to enter their first appointment to a senior position within an IPT and other similar posts across the MOD acquisition community. OF4 Military students who have recently completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC) and who will be entering an acquisition appointment
Objectives: • To prepare acquisition • staff to undertake more senior roles in acquisition.
• To develop a more strategic approach to decision making.
• To develop a Through-Life approach to acquisition.
• To understand the impact of Defence Values for Acquisition, particularly in respect of the relationship between the MOD and Industry
• To understand the key issues currently impacting on defence acquisition. (Note: The course is an education programme delivered at the strategic level. It is not intended to develop specific functional skills relevant to an individual’s role. A range of relevant courses to develop functional skills are available through DA-CMT.)
How to Book: Nominations either via the relevant service secretary, or the employing TLB (generally DE&S, Centre, and Front Line Commands). In the event of excess demand, places will be allocated on a priority basis by DLMC after discussion with the course sponsor and employing organisations.
